Claire Alexander
Claire Alexander – Dance Artist, Educator, and Choreographer From the moment Claire took her first steps, dance has been an inseparable part of her life. Growing up in her mother's dance studio, Claire was immersed in a world where movement and expression were as natural as breathing. By the tender age of two, she was not only witnessing performances by legendary artists like Paul Taylor, Jacques d'Amboise, and the Ailey Company but also absorbing the rhythms and embodied emotions that would shape her future. Claire's early exposure to diverse dance forms ignited a lifelong passion for movement that transcends technique and form. She cherishes the feeling of dance—the spiritual connection that comes from embodying music and emotion—over the mere execution of steps. This philosophy guided her through formal studies in dance at San Jose State University, where she expanded her repertoire to include choreography and went on to dive deep into musical theater choreography and direction. With over 25 years of experience teaching dance to all age groups, Claire has a unique ability to make movement accessible and joyful. She believes that dance is not just an art form but a language of the spirit, a means of connecting individuals to themselves and to each other. Her inclusive approach breaks down barriers, inviting everyone—from seasoned dancers to absolute beginners—to explore the transformative power of movement. Professionally, Claire has choreographed numerous productions, built custom curriculum, and led professional workshops, blending classical techniques with contemporary expression. Her work often reflects her belief that dance should be a holistic experience, engaging the mind, body, and spirit. She emphasizes the importance of feeling as a means to discover form, encouraging her students and collaborators to find their own authentic expression within the movement.
