Cheo Gomez Rojas

Jose “Cheo” Gomez is a multidisciplinary artist from Barranquilla, Colombia, specializing in choreography, percussion, and Afro-Colombian cultural arts. With over 10 years of experience, Cheo has dedicated his career to teaching, performing, and preserving Afro-Colombian dance traditions. Recognized for both artistic excellence and community leadership, he was crowned King of Carnaval San Francisco 2022. Cheo has collaborated with local Colombian folkloric dance companies and shared his expertise in dance and percussion at institutions such as Santa Clara University and as a guest artist in the Performing Arts Department at Lick-Wilmerding High School in San Francisco. His work combines technical mastery, cultural richness, and a passion for community engagement, making him a dynamic and inspiring presence both on stage and in the studio. Salsa Caleña originates from Cali, Colombia, and is characterized by joyful energy and a deep connection to Afro-Colombian rhythms and traditions. Its cultural richness and dynamic movement make it one of the most exciting and distinctive salsa styles globally.
