About this class
Do you feel like you don’t know how to have good alignment and be comfortable? Do you find that your neck and shoulders tense when you are concentrating and end up interfering with movement, technique or performance? Do you have recurring pain and injuries? Would you like to experience a new way of moving that is harmonious, efficient, and authentically expressive? Alexander technique is a time honored somatic method, used by actors, dancers, musicians and exercisers, to align, relax and free the body from limiting tension habits. Rather than being a form of movement like Ballet or Jazz, Alexander Technique is a framework for approaching all the movements of life. We discover our habits and explore how to let go. We find support and power through cooperating with our skeletal “design”. We stop pushing and forcing and begin allowing. Results can include better line and alignment, less pain, more ease and flexibility, and expanded creativity. Class will include a gentle warmup with floor work appropriate for all ages, exploration of AT concepts through movement and discussion, one-on-one coaching to refine skills, and optional hands-on guidance from the instructor. AT touch is non-invasive and communicates spacious relaxation and support. New material will be introduced progressively and developed over monthly cycle to allow students time to drop-out of their thinking mind and enter their feeling/moving mind. Students will leave relaxed, loosened, and with a new perspective on moving applicable to both dance and life. All-levels welcomed.
