About this class
THIS CLASS IS HELD AT LONDON NELSON! 301 Center St, Santa Cruz, CA 95060 This series will be taking place Nov 18th, Dec 2, Dec 9th and is a part of our Beginner Technique Rotating Class series. No tap experience? No problem. This three-week beginner tap technique class is designed for anyone curious about moving, making rhythm, and learning something new. Your teacher, Ashley, remembers exactly what it feels like to be a beginner. She started tap later in life, so this class is taught with patience, encouragement, and zero expectation that you already “know how to dance.” Over the course of three weeks, you’ll learn the Shim Sham, a classic historical tap routine that every tap dancer should know. Each week, we’ll build on the skills and choreography from the week before, giving you time to practice, repeat, and feel more confident as the routine comes together. Along the way, you’ll practice beginner-friendly steps like flaps, shuffles, and paradiddles, building the foundation for more complex tap rhythms and combinations. Tap is great for rhythm, coordination, balance, memory, and strengthening the brain-body connection. No previous dance experience is needed—just bring your curiosity and willingness to try. Smiles are guaranteed. A small selection of tap shoes will be available to borrow. Otherwise, socks are just fine.
