About this class
Bachata originated in the Dominican Republic in the early 1960s. Today, it has become a global phenomenon, performed in clubs and on stages. Students will begin with a warm-up, isolations, basic steps, and partner work combinations. There is no need to bring a partner, as we will rotate frequently to ensure even partnering and find the follow-and-lead connection. We will explore traditional and urban bachata while focusing on timing, musicality, footwork, and partner connection. This class is ideal for students who have a basic understanding of bachata or experience in other forms of social dance and are ready to develop their skills further. Monica has been a staff member and dancer in our ODC & R&M community for more than a decade. She has also been an active performer in Carnaval SF contingents, social events in the Bay Area, in Latin and Brazilian dance. Monica is excited to host a social dance full of joy, exciting movement combinations, and the fundamental basic steps of Bachata. Let's celebrate community and Latin culture! Bailamos Bachata! Let’s finish this year with beginner-friendly Bachata, good vibes, community, and lots of laughter. No pressure, no perfection — just music, movement, and connection.
